Expiry
When a pass has anexpiry date set, both Apple Wallet and Google Wallet will alert the user as the pass approaches its expiry.
- Apple Wallet — surfaces the pass on the lock screen in the days leading up to expiry and displays a visible countdown on the pass face
- Google Wallet — highlights the expiry date prominently on the pass
expiry when issuing a pass:
Expiry is set per-pass, not per-template — different passes from the same template can have different expiry dates.
Event time
Event passes are automatically surfaced on the user’s lock screen as the event start time approaches.- Apple Wallet — shows the pass on the lock screen before and during the event window based on the
startDate
startDate is set on the template and applies to all passes issued from it:
Location
When a pass has alocation set, Apple Wallet will surface the pass on the lock screen when the user’s device is near that location.
- Apple Wallet — shows a lock screen notification with the venue name when the user arrives in the vicinity
location to the event template:
name is shown in the lock screen prompt. address appears on the back of the pass. Both latitude and longitude are required for location-based triggering.
Location notifications are an Apple Wallet feature only. Google Wallet does not support geofence-based pass surfacing.
